Joining the SDSS Federation

Before applying to join, you need to:

  • Install the Shibboleth software as described in the deployment guides at http://shibboleth.internet2.edu/#Documentation. During installation you can either follow the procedures below to join the SDSS federation as part of the initial setup or begin by installing a free-standing (localhost) setup that is not part of a federation and then reconfigure it afterwards.   • Identify the X.509 certificates you will need (see WhatCertificates).
  • Obtain those certificates from a certification authority acceptable to the SDSS federation (see GetCertificate).

To apply to join the SDSS federation, follow one of the two procedures below, depending on whether you are applying to join as an origin site (identity provider) or target site (service provider). You may do both, in which case it may be easiest to start as an origin and test that against existing target services before configuring your own target.
