SDSS WAYF upgrade
Posted on Thursday, 1 January 1970
The SDSS federation's central WAYF server has been upgraded with fresh graphic design and enhanced functionality from the latest Internet2 reference code. That code includes substantial changes contributed by Rod Widdowson from the SDSS team, bringing its internal structure into line with the latest identity provider code and adding new functionality. Following any of the EDINA links above with no existing Shibboleth session established (close your browser if necessary) and pushing the "Login using Shibboleth" button should take you to the new-look WAYF.
The functional changes include the following:
- The user can choose to have the selected identity provider remembered for a session (as before), for a week, or not at all.
- Remembered selections are presented as a list of shortcuts from which the user can choose. Previously, the last selection was always used automatically.
- Eliminating automatic selection means that users with accounts at more than one identity provider can now easily switch between different identities, but also means that users may see the WAYF screen more often (e.g., when visiting a new service provider, having already logged in to another service).
